Long before “protein powder” entered the Indian kitchen, Bihar already had sattu — roasted Bengal gram (black chana) stone-ground into a fine, nutty flour. For generations it has been the working person’s fuel across the Gangetic plains: a fistful stirred into water became a meal that carried farmers, rickshaw-pullers and students through long days. Locals call it the “protein of the poor”, but its richness has nothing to do with price.

Our sattu comes from a family-run mill in Patna, where whole black chana is first dry-roasted in iron bhads until it darkens and releases its signature smoky aroma, then milled slowly on stone so the flour stays cool and keeps its flavour. No fillers, no preservatives, no roasted-gram blends — only single-origin chana, the way Bihari households have demanded it for centuries.
