Description
In Bihar, the day pauses for chai and a fistful of chivda. Long before packaged namkeen, every neighbourhood had its bhunja counter, a roaster who sand-roasted flattened rice (chura), gram and pulses to order, scenting the lane with curry leaves and warm spice. Our Bihari Chana Chivda bottles that everyday ritual: thin, Bihar-grown poha roasted to a feather-light crisp, then tossed with roasted Bengal gram (chana), peanuts, slivered dry coconut, curry leaves, turmeric and a restrained hand of salt and chilli.
What makes ours special is the balance and the sourcing. We use the same aromatic flattened-rice tradition that gives Bihar its famous dahi-chura and Katarni poha, then roast rather than deep-soak, so the mix stays light, savoury and gentle on the stomach. Every batch is kettle-tempered in small lots, cooled fully, and sealed airtight at peak crispness so it travels to your kitchen exactly as it left ours.
Ingredients: flattened rice (poha/chura), roasted Bengal gram, groundnuts, edible oil, dried coconut, curry leaves, salt, turmeric, asafoetida, red chilli, sugar.
How to eat: serve straight from the pack with masala chai, scatter over dahi-chura, or use as a quick topping for bhel and upma. A little chopped onion, green chilli and a squeeze of lemon turns it into an instant evening chaat.
How to store: keep the pouch sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Reseal tightly after opening and enjoy within a few days of opening for the crispest bite.
Shelf life: 90 days from packing in the unopened, airtight pouch.
A humble, wholesome, no-fried-flour snack that carries the taste of a Bihari evening, light, crunchy and honestly spiced.
